Four impressive winners in four days for Go Racing

New Zealand-based syndicators Go Racing celebrated four impressive winners in four days across Australasia last week.

The winning quartet kicked off with Super Sincere at Riccarton Park on Wednesday.

The Andrew Carston-trained three-year-old lived up to the high opinion her connections have of her with a dominant display in the Speight’s Summit Ultra On Tap Maiden (1200m).

Her next start will be in the Listed Liqourland Gore Guineas (1335m) on February 2, with the NZB Southern Filly of the Year Series also on her radar.

“We’ve always had time for her, but manners and physical immaturity cost her earlier on.” Go Racing’s General Manager Matt Allnutt said. “She’s a very exciting filly going forward.”

On Thursday it was the Stephen Marsh-trained three-year-old Penman that set tongues wagging at Te Rapa, with an easy win in the Waikato Draught (1400m).

Penman is nominated for the $1,250,000 Gr.1 Trackside NZ Derby (2400m); however he is also an interesting proposition for slot holders in the $3,500,000 NZB Kiwi (1500m) with both races being run at Ellerslie on Champions Day, March 8.

“He’s a horse that we’ve got a massive opinion of, and we think he’s a Group class horse,” Allnutt said. “We’d like to give him one more run and look for a slot for him in the NZB Kiwi, we think he’s untapped.”

Across the Tasman on Friday night, the Chris Waller-trained four-year-old mare Sting In The Tail came from last to win the TAB Handicap (1900m).

“She was super impressive too,” Allnutt said. “She came from last at the 500m mark to win which is very hard to do.

“She’s a Savabeel mare that’s going places, and we think she’ll be a Group horse too.”

Finally, and not to be outdone by the three previously mentioned winners, five-year-old European import Tajanis, jetted away with a 5.53 length victory in the Ranvet Handicap (2400m)  at Rosehill Gardens in Sydney on Saturday.

“The second horse was Gilded Water who is the second favourite for the Sydney Cup, and he gave him an absolute trouncing,” Allnutt said.

Also trained by Chris Waller, Tajanis is another horse that looks destined for Group race success, however Allnutt said that it was unlikely that Tajanis would give Gilded Water another challenge in this year’s edition of the Sydney Cup.

“We think that the 3200m of the Sydney Cup would suit him,” Allnutt said. “But he’s been up for a while and it’s maybe just a preparation too soon for him.

“He’s likely to spell now and perhaps we’ll look at the Queensland Cup later in the year.”

The four wins provided at timely boost to the Go Racing team who have been out on the road inspecting yearlings ahead of the New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale which begins this Sunday.

“We’ve been busy working through catalogue and viewing the yearlings out on the farms,” Allnutt said. “We’ll be out in force at Karaka again next week.”

“We’ve put together a great team with world renowned bloodstock agent Stuart Boman of Blandford Bloodstock and Donncha McCarthy partnering with us in the selection process.

“We’ve been working with Stuart for several years now and we’ve had a lot of success together with good winners across the globe.”
