New Zealand-based syndicators Go Racing celebrated an impressive winner in France over night when Mojave River took out the lucrative €160,000 Arqana Series des Pouliches for 2YOs on debut.
The Aidan O’Brien trained juvenile led throughout in the straight course event to win by two lengths under jockey Maxime Guyon.
“She was purchased out of the Gorsebridge Breeze-Up Sale in Ireland back in May and she has really gone ahead since then,” Go Racing’s General Manager Matt Allnutt said.
“We thought she would run well but you can’t be too confident going into these races given they are all unraced, but she was quite dominant.
“She looks to be a lovely filly, and Joseph has got a really big opinion of her.”
Mojave River is from the first crop of Shadwell Stud’s Mohaather. She was originally sold through the 2022 Arqana December Breeding Stock Sale for €17,000 before being purchased for €105,000 as a 2YO by Blandford Bloodstock and Go Racing in May.
Mojave River is one of five horses Go Racing have in training with Joseph O’Brien in Ireland and their operation continues to expand globally.
“We’ve got a lovely team of horses up there,” Allnutt said. “We’ve purchased some lovely horses of late and we’ll be buying more later in the year.
“We’re building up a good team with Joseph and a good profile up there.”
Mojave River’s two-year-old success in the northern hemisphere follows Go Racing’s recent juvenile success on their home turf with Velocious, who is a finalist in the Champion Two Year Old category of the 2023-24 New Zealand Thoroughbred Horse of the Year Awards to be held on September 8.
